4/10Critic Score

"Via Darjeeling" attempts a clever narrative trick—using multiple perspectives to unravel a disappearance mystery—but stumbles badly in execution. The premise has promise: a vanished groom in a honeymoon paradise, a desperate wife, and a cop recounting the case to friends who each spin their own theory. It's the kind of structure that could generate genuine intrigue if handled with precision. Instead, what we get is a muddled, unfocused mess that can't decide whether it's a thriller, a puzzle-box narrative, or a character study. The performances are largely forgettable, with the actors seeming as confused about their own motivations as the audience will be. Director fails to build any real tension or investment in the mystery itself—the reveals feel arbitrary rather than inevitable.

The fundamental problem is that the film treats its multiple perspectives as a gimmick rather than a storytelling tool. Each theory the partygoers propose should feel plausible, interconnected, and progressively illuminate the truth. Instead, they feel like disconnected fan theories that undermine rather than enhance the central mystery. The writing is lazy, relying on convenient coincidences and contrived plot devices instead of genuine investigation. By the time the actual truth emerges, you won't care enough to feel satisfied—you'll just feel relieved it's over. The Darjeeling setting, which should have been atmospheric and moody, becomes mere window dressing.

Storyline

So basically, there's this newlywed couple, Ankur and Rimli, who are totally into each other and vacationing in Darjeeling. But then right before they're supposed to head home, Ankur just vanishes without a trace, and poor Rimli is left absolutely panicked trying to figure out where he went. A cop named Robin Dutt gets involved and tries his best to track Ankur down, but he comes up empty-handed.

Later on, Robin shows up at this party with a bunch of friends who are just hanging out and having a blast together. He decides to tell everyone about this whole mysterious situation with Ankur and Rimli, and it gets everyone's attention real quick.

The interesting part is how each person at the party starts coming up with their own theory about what actually happened to Ankur. Everyone has a different take on the mystery, and these different interpretations basically become the heart of the whole movie. It's like watching everyone try to piece together this puzzle from their own perspective.
