Vedaa

So I just watched this incredibly intense film about a young woman named Vedaa who's basically trapped in this brutal system of caste oppression in rural Rajasthan. She's constantly being pushed around and beaten down by these upper-caste people, especially this guy Jitendar who basically controls everything around her village. She gets this idea to learn boxing as a way to actually fight back and protect her family, but obviously the system won't even let her try because of who she is.

Then this former military officer Abhimanyu shows up at her college as a sports coach, and he's carrying his own heavy baggage from the past. He's been thrown out of the army because he killed a terrorist instead of capturing him alive, and now he's dealing with that guilt. But he sees something special in Vedaa and decides to secretly train her in boxing, which is honestly beautiful because he becomes this unlikely ally for her.

Things escalate pretty dramatically when her brother falls in love with a girl from the upper caste, and when they're discovered, the village basically punishes him brutally. It's heartbreaking and shocking and makes you realize just how deep this hatred goes. That's when Vedaa really decides she's had enough and knows she has to take actual legal action, and Abhimanyu stands by her side through all of it.
