6.8/10Critic Score

There's a raw, almost uncomfortable honesty in *Ugly Aur Pagli* that stays with you long after the credits roll. What could have been just another quirky rom-com instead becomes a genuine exploration of two broken people using chaos as a shield against their own pain. The film doesn't shy away from showing Kuhu's cruelty—the humiliation Kabir endures feels genuinely difficult to watch, and that's precisely the point. Director manages to walk this delicate tightrope between dark comedy and emotional depth, never letting us dismiss either character's behavior as simply "romantic" or "cute." The performances carry this weight beautifully; there's a vulnerability beneath the madness that makes you believe these two damaged souls are drawn to each other not out of love, but out of mutual recognition of brokenness.

What frustrates me is that the film occasionally stumbles in its execution of this complex premise. Some moments feel like they're trying too hard to be edgy without earning the emotional payoff, and the third act's shift toward tenderness, while necessary, can feel rushed compared to the careful character work in the beginning. The chemistry between leads keeps things afloat during these wavering moments, but you sense the film's potential to be truly great was slightly undercooked. Still, this is a movie that refuses to give audiences easy comfort—it asks us to sit with discomfort and find humanity in the margins, which is far more valuable than another predictable lo

Storyline

So there's this guy Kabir who's been stuck in engineering college for like a decade, just goofing around with his buddies and avoiding any real responsibility. One night at the train station in Mumbai, he randomly bumps into this wild, drunk girl named Kuhu, and he thinks his luck has finally changed and he's found his dream girlfriend. But plot twist – she's actually just using him as her personal entertainment toy and makes him do all sorts of crazy stuff like dancing like an idiot, running around half-naked, and even wearing women's high heels!

Turns out Kuhu is dealing with some serious personal baggage and her twisted way of dealing with it is by making someone else's life miserable. Poor Kabir becomes her target and has to put up with her absolutely insane demands and mood swings. At first he's super uncomfortable with how she treats him, but gradually he starts to see past her wild behavior and realizes there's actually more going on with her emotionally.

As things progress between them, Kabir slowly discovers what's really driving Kuhu to act this way, and once he understands the deeper reasons behind her actions, everything changes. Their whole dynamic shifts and it becomes way more complicated than just a fun, chaotic love story.
