7/10Critic Score

There's something deeply unsettling about "Table No. 21" that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go—and that's precisely what makes it work. This film takes the desperation of an ordinary couple drowning in financial ruin and transforms it into a psychological pressure cooker. Vivaan and Siya's journey from hopeful vacationers to emotionally stripped participants is anchored by surprisingly nuanced performances that refuse to let us judge them. Director Bejoy Nambiar understands that the real horror here isn't supernatural or fantastical; it's the terrifying vulnerability of two people forced to excavate their relationship's darkest corners on live television, all while a lie detector monitors their every heartbeat. The premise could have been gimmicky, but instead it becomes a mirror held up to the audience—would we do the same? The buildup is masterful, and the film respects our intelligence by not rushing toward easy answers.

Yet the execution falters in its final act. As the challenges escalate from psychologically invasive to physically disturbing, the film loses some of its philosophical bite and veers toward shock value for its own sake. The moral ambiguity that made the earlier sequences so compelling gets muddied when the narrative needs to wrap itself up, and you can feel the director struggling to maintain thematic coherence while delivering the "twist" audiences expect. The third act, while visually striking, sacrifices character consistency for plot momentu

Storyline

Vivaan and Siya are an ordinary couple hitting a rough patch when Vivaan loses his job and money becomes tight. Just when things seem bleak, they win an all-expenses-paid vacation to Fiji, which feels like a dream come true. But their relaxing getaway takes an unexpected turn when they meet a mysterious man named Mr. Khan at their resort who offers them a chance to participate in an exclusive game show called Table No. 21 with an incredible cash prize waiting for the winners.

The game seems promising at first, but Mr. Khan explains the rules in a way that makes it clear this isn't your typical quiz show. Eight deeply personal questions will be asked, and after each answer, the couple must complete a challenge connected to that question. He warns them that lie detectors are attached to their wrists, and lying comes with serious consequences. Despite their initial hesitation, Vivaan and Siya decide to take the risk and enter the competition, hoping to change their financial situation.

As the game progresses, things get increasingly uncomfortable and twisted. The questions dig into painful secrets and regrets from their relationship—things they've kept hidden even from each other. The tasks become more and more disturbing, forcing the couple to confront dark truths about themselves. What started as an exciting opportunity quickly transforms into something far more sinister, and they begin to realize that this game might be about more than just winning money—it seems to be about punishment for something from their past.
