Review
Soch attempts to dissect the rot beneath Bollywood's glittering surface—a noir-tinged thriller about how stardom can become a prison—but stumbles badly in its execution. The premise has real potential: a man caught between a murder accusation and an extortionist's impossible demands is fertile ground for psychological tension, reminiscent of better thrillers like Badla or even Gupt. However, director's handling of the material feels muddled and unfocused. The wife's jealousy arc, which should simmer with tragic inevitability, instead feels performative and undercooked; we never quite believe in Madhulika's descent or understand the emotional stakes that would justify her bitter accusations. The performances, particularly in the lead, lack the nuance needed to carry such a morally compromised protagonist—there's no charisma or internal conflict radiating from Raj, making it difficult to invest in his predicament.
Where Soch truly falters is in its narrative mechanics. The mysterious blackmailer subplot, designed to be the film's engine of suspense, instead feels contrived and narratively inelegant. The "old agreement" device strains credibility, and the film never establishes why Raj wouldn't simply go to the police or why this stranger possesses such leverage. The climactic choice between freedom and integrity should feel like a genuine moral reckoning, but instead it plays as melodramatic wheel-spinning. Compared to the precise plotting of Kahaani or even the pulpy energy o
Storyline
Raj Matthews is living the dream — he's Bollywood's golden boy, just snagged the best actor award, and he's graciously dedicating it to his brilliant director Preeti Sardesai, who clearly adores him. Behind the red carpets and flashbulbs, though, there's this simmering tension nobody sees: his wife Madhulika is absolutely losing it with jealousy, convinced that Raj and Preeti are having an affair. She's become bitter, insecure, and publicly humiliates him with accusations that shake the entire industry.
Then everything explodes when Madhulika turns up dead, and suddenly Raj's the prime suspect! But here's where it gets absolutely bonkers — some mysterious guy confesses to the murder and tells Raj they had some old agreement where Raj owes him a favor: killing his abusive father. Raj denies ever making such a deal, but now he's trapped between this relentless blackmailer breathing down his neck and cops who think he's lying. The pressure keeps mounting as this unnamed man refuses to back off.
Everything comes to a head when Preeti's life hangs in the balance, forcing Raj to make an impossible choice between his freedom, his integrity, and the woman he cares about. It's a masterclass in how quickly glamour can crumble when desperation takes over!
