Deepti Naval's "Silsiilay" arrives with genuine ambition, attempting to weave three distinct narratives of modern women at crossroads with their relationships. The film's central premise—exploring how female protagonists navigate personal crises while discovering solidarity—carries thematic weight and contemporary relevance. The performances, particularly in the quieter moments of emotional reckoning, suggest that the cast understood the material's intent. There's a certain sincerity here that deserves acknowledgment; this isn't a cynical attempt to milk sentimentality, but rather a deliberate effort to examine the messy terrain of adult relationships and female agency.

However, the execution falters where it matters most: in the storytelling craft itself. The three-track narrative, despite its promising convergence, feels episodic rather than organically interwoven, with the "twist" landing more as contrivance than earned revelation. The pacing drags in patches where tighter editing could have maintained momentum, and some of the dialogue leans toward the expository rather than the lived. The chemistry between couples needed deeper development to make their fractured states truly affecting; we're told these relationships matter, but we're not always convinced through scene work alone.

Storyline

Ziya is this ambitious Bollywood actress climbing the ranks in the industry, but her personal life is falling apart. She's living with Neel, the guy who basically launched her career, and they want different things—she's dreaming of starting a family while he's not interested in settling down or taking on responsibilities. When he decides to move on and gets involved with someone else, Ziya has to figure out where she goes from here.

Then there's Anushka, who works as a receptionist and is juggling two very different guys. Nikhil is wealthy and charming, but something feels off about the tenderness in their connection. On the flip side, there's Tarun from her office who's been quietly harboring feelings for her, and she's got to make a choice between these two paths. The movie builds up to this romantic crossroads moment with a really cool twist that nobody sees coming.

The third storyline follows Rehana, a homemaker whose marriage is being tested when she discovers her husband Anwar is cheating on her with a flight attendant named Preeti. All three of these women's stories actually weave together in a really meaningful way, showing how they find strength and support in each other when life gets messy. Natassha also has a role that really leaves an impression on the whole movie.
