Rajshree Thakur's "Shaitaan" arrives with genuine ambition—a home-invasion thriller wrapped in supernatural dread that wants to explore how quickly trust can shatter within a family. Ajay Devgn brings his characteristic intensity to Kabir, a man whose rational mind becomes useless when confronted with the irrational, and there's real pathos in watching him struggle to protect his family from an enemy he cannot comprehend. Madhavan's Vanraj is disturbingly charming, embodying that particular horror of the familiar turned monstrous. The farmhouse setting transforms beautifully from sanctuary to prison, and in its best moments, the film captures that primal fear of isolation—when help is unreachable and the threat wears a human face.

Yet the film falters precisely where it matters most: the emotional core. Janhvi's possession and transformation should break our hearts, should make us feel the parents' helplessness as viscerally as they do, but instead it becomes mechanical. The screenplay relies too heavily on jump scares and plot mechanics rather than psychological penetration—we understand Vanraj's philosophy intellectually but never feel its seductive danger. The climax, for all its spectacle, reduces a rich premise about freedom and control to a straightforward good-versus-evil showdown. Madhavan's talent is wasted on a character who needed complexity beneath the charm, and the child actors, though earnest, aren't given scenes that let them breathe.

Storyline

So there's this super successful accountant guy named Kabir who decides to take his family—his wife Jyoti and their two kids—away to this gorgeous farmhouse in the middle of nowhere for some much-needed relaxation and quality time together. They're all excited about escaping the chaos of city life and just enjoying nature and each other's company in this peaceful, remote setting.

But then things go sideways when they meet this charming dude named Vanraj who claims he's just a traveler who got stuck nearby. He's so smooth and friendly that Kabir ends up letting him stay with them without thinking twice about it. That's when everything starts falling apart—their daughter Janhvi suddenly starts acting completely out of character, becoming mean and violent, especially toward her little brother Dhruv, and her parents are absolutely freaked out trying to figure out what's happening to her.

Eventually, the family uncovers the horrifying truth: Vanraj isn't some harmless wanderer but actually a supernatural being who knows dark magic and can control people's minds. It turns out he's been manipulating Janhvi and plans to use her to push some sick ideology about removing people's freedom and free will. As his grip on the girl tightens, he cuts off their ability to call for help and manages to turn the whole family against each other in this terrifying game.
