There's a quiet dignity in watching a life refuse to be diminished by circumstance, and "Salaam Venky" reaches for that profound truth with genuine sincerity. Kajol anchors the film as Venkatesh's mother, delivering a performance layered with the particular kind of strength that comes from loving someone while learning to let them go—it's maternal devotion without suffocation, protection without control. The relationship between mother and son forms the emotional spine here, and when the film trusts these two characters in silence, in stolen glances across a room, it finds moments of real poignancy. Director Revathi understands that the most powerful stories about defiance aren't always the loudest ones, and she mostly resists the urge to melodramatize Venkatesh's journey, allowing his quiet determination to speak for itself.

Yet the film struggles with the weight of its own ambition. The organ donation subplot, which should be the moral crescendo, feels somewhat rushed and underdeveloped—it's introduced almost as an afterthought rather than growing organically from Venkatesh's character arc. The screenplay, while well-intentioned, occasionally lapses into sentimentality when it should lean into complexity; the legal and bureaucratic conflicts that promise to challenge "the system" remain frustratingly surface-level. Some supporting characters exist more as plot devices than fully realized people, and the pacing in the second half becomes uneven, diluting the intimate moment
