5/10Critic Score

Ajay Devgn's *Naam* attempts to mine dramatic territory that films like *Memento* and *The Bourne Identity* have explored with considerably more precision, but Mahesh Bhatt's direction here feels more like a melodramatic echo than a substantive reimagining. The amnesia premise—a man waking without memories and piecing together his identity—is inherently compelling, yet the execution suffers from sluggish pacing and predictable narrative beats. Devgn delivers a serviceable performance, projecting the requisite confusion and determination, but the screenplay doesn't provide him with the psychological complexity needed to elevate what becomes a fairly routine thriller. The supporting cast functions more as plot devices than fully realized characters, and the "crucial clues" revealed through various encounters feel mechanical rather than organic to the storytelling.

What truly undermines *Naam* is its inability to maintain narrative tension across its runtime. The film meanders through its mystery, revealing twists that feel obligatory rather than earned, and the internal conflicts the protagonist supposedly confronts never achieve the emotional weight they deserve. Where a comparable film might use fragmented memory sequences to disorient the audience alongside the protagonist, here we're simply told what's happening. The transformation promised in the synopsis remains largely superficial—a character arc that never quite develops into something meaningful. There's competence in

Storyline

A man awakens without any recollection of his past, setting the stage for an intense personal quest in this Ajay Devgn-led drama. The protagonist must piece together fragments of his life while grappling with the mystery of who he truly is and how he ended up in his current circumstances.

As he navigates through his fractured memories, the character encounters various individuals from his former life who may hold crucial clues to his identity. Each encounter becomes a stepping stone toward uncovering the truth about his mysterious past and the events that led to his memory loss.

The film follows his transformation as he attempts to rebuild his life from scratch, confronting both external obstacles and internal doubts along the way. Through this journey of self-discovery, deeper layers of his character are gradually revealed.
