There's a raw, undeniable power in watching a woman pushed to the absolute breaking point, and "Mehndi" doesn't shy away from showing us exactly how far cruelty can drive someone toward darkness. The film's first half is suffocating in the best way—we feel Pooja's hopes crumble alongside her marriage, and the constant blame from Niranjan's family stings because it's so recognizably cruel. The twist involving her sacrifice and its weaponization against her is genuinely devastating; it's the moment where the narrative shifts from domestic tragedy into something far more dangerous. The performances carry this weight well, particularly in conveying how betrayal compounds when it comes from those who should protect you, and the direction understands that sometimes the most powerful scenes are quiet ones—a glance, a rejection, a moment of realization that you're completely alone.

Yet for all its emotional intensity, the film struggles to balance its revenge arc with coherence. The transition from broken victim to calculated avenger happens almost too smoothly, and while the visceral satisfaction of her vengeance is undeniable, the story sometimes sacrifices character logic for spectacle. We're rooting for Pooja because she's suffered so much, but the film occasionally feels more interested in punishing the family than exploring what this violence costs her soul. The climax delivers the catharsis audiences crave, and there's undeniable craft in how the director pulls together all t

Storyline

A newlywed bride from a humble background walks into a gilded cage, and what unfolds is absolutely gripping! Pooja marries Niranjan with such hope, but his gambling habits and visits to brothels quickly poison the well, and when he asks her father for factory money, she refuses—setting off a chain reaction that'll devastate them all. His family turns on her instantly, blaming her for everything from his character to his bad luck, and the cruelty is relentless.

Then comes the jaw-dropping twist that shifts everything: Niranjan's arrested for murder and sentenced to death, and a mysterious stranger offers salvation but only if Pooja spends one night with him! She sacrifices her dignity to save his life, but when he's released, his mother weaponizes that single night into a character assassination—convincing Niranjan that his wife is "characterless" and deserving of exile. The family destroys her reputation in court, and when her father is brutally murdered by her sister-in-law's husband, Pooja's grief transforms into pure, calculated rage.

What happens next is spectacular revenge cinema at its finest! Pooja becomes an avenging force, systematically dismantling the family that destroyed hers—she kills the man who murdered her father, then turns the tables on Niranjan and his entire household when they attempt to burn her alive. In the end, as Niranjan lies dying and his family begs for forgiveness, Pooja stands victorious, having reclaimed her power and made them answer for every humiliation—it's cathartic, it's fierce, and absolutely unforgettable!
