5.8/10Critic Score

Rajkumar Santoshi's "Maine Dil Tujhko Diya" operates in that peculiar sweet spot where sincerity and absurdity coexist without apology. The film wears its romantic idealism proudly—Ajay's unwavering devotion to Ayesha, even when hunted across Mumbai, has a earnestness that recalls better days of Hindi cinema. Santoshi, despite his uneven track record, manages to string together sequences with genuine momentum; the action choreography is workmanlike but serviceable, and there are moments where the sheer conviction of the performances elevates material that could easily have crumbled into parody. Ajay Devgn commits fully to the role's emotional demands, and his chemistry with his co-lead provides the emotional anchor the narrative desperately needs.

Yet the film's plot mechanics strain credibility beyond even generous Bollywood standards. The pivot from romance to underworld thriller happens abruptly, and the screenplay struggles to integrate these tonal shifts coherently. The redemption arc of Bhaijaan—triggered by a sudden emotional epiphany—feels undercooked, asking audiences to accept character transformation on sentiment alone. The 24-hour deadline gimmick becomes almost invisible in a narrative that sprawls across arrest, escape, and gang warfare. Where Santoshi's direction falters most is in pacing; scenes that should crackle instead linger, while crucial emotional turns rush past.

What ultimately works in the film's favor is its refusal to apologize for its romanticis

Storyline

Ajay runs his college crew with style and swagger, all rocking matching jackets like they own the place. When he meets Ayesha, sparks fly instantly—they go from friends to madly in love in the best way possible. But her father Ranjit is furious because Ajay's broke, so he throws down a brutal ultimatum: win her back in 24 hours or disappear from her life forever, and Ajay takes the challenge like a boss.

Things explode when Vishal Chopra, Ranjit's business partner, decides Ajay's gotta die so his own son can snag Ayesha and the family fortune. He hires criminal kingpin Bhaijaan to take Ajay out, but a gang beats Ajay half to death instead—except our guy recovers and storms back anyway. Then it gets messier: Ajay gets framed and arrested, breaks out, and keeps fighting through wave after wave of henchmen while the clock ticks down on that 24-hour deadline.

Right when Bhaijaan's about to finish Ajay off, something magical happens—Ajay's raw declaration of love for Ayesha breaks through Bhaijaan's hardened heart, reminding him of his own brother who died for love. Bhaijaan switches sides completely and helps Ajay crash the wedding just in time. Ayesha's little sister plays the incriminating tape, Ajay and Ayesha get married on the spot, and Bhaijaan destroys the henchmen with a sword while finding redemption—it's chaotic, it's bonkers, and it's absolutely perfect.
