Review
Arjun Nair's Review of "Kuttey":
Rajkumar Hirani's dark comedy heist thriller arrives with genuine promise—a wickedly plotted premise, slick cinematography, and a soundtrack that actually elevates the narrative. The ensemble cast, particularly Tabu, delivers performances that could've carried a far superior film. She owns every frame with an effortless command that makes you forget the script's shortcomings. Kapoor, Mishra, and even the supporting players (Shah, Konkona, Radhika Apte) justify their presence with controlled, impactful work. For cinephiles who appreciate pitch-black humor and morally compromised characters, there's enough charm here to warrant a single sitting.
But here's the rub: Kuttey squanders its potential with a screenplay that can't decide what it wants to be. The excessive violence and relentless profanity feel gratuitous rather than purposeful, distracting from the sharper satirical elements that occasionally peek through. The film entertains in bursts, but lacks the narrative coherence to sustain momentum throughout. You'll find yourself appreciating isolated moments and performances rather than celebrating the whole. It's a film that could've been genuinely clever but settles for being merely watchable—a disappointing gap between ambition and execution.
