5/10Critic Score

What begins as a familiar love-triangle rom-com premise in "Koi Aap Sa" abruptly pivots into something far darker and more serious, a tonal whiplash that the film struggles to reconcile. The first act fumbles its rom-com beats—the chemistry between leads feels perfunctory, and the jealousy dynamics that should anchor the emotional conflict come across as undercooked. Director Siddharth Anand Kumar seems uncertain whether he's making a lighthearted college romance or a trauma drama, and this fundamental confusion seeps into every scene. The performances, particularly in these early stretches, lack the nuance needed to make the interpersonal tensions believable; we're told these characters care deeply for each other, but rarely shown why convincingly enough.

The narrative's sharp turn toward sexual assault and its consequences could have been powerful had the film earned it through careful character development and thematic precision. Instead, the shift feels exploitative—a plot device inserted to manufacture tragedy rather than an organic extension of the story's tensions. Comparing it to films like "Pink" or "Raazi," which navigate dark subject matter with both sensitivity and narrative purpose, "Koi Aap Sa" lacks the structural sophistication to handle such weighty material. The hospital climax and its "shocking news" feel engineered for melodrama rather than genuine emotional resonance. Storyline

So basically, there's this guy Rohan who's had a crush on a college girl named Preeti, and his childhood best friend Simi has been totally helping him out with it. The thing is, Preeti gets pretty insecure about how close Rohan and Simi are with each other, which creates this awkward tension between them. Then suddenly Simi's fiancé Vicky shows up on the scene along with his buddy Ranjit, and everything starts getting complicated.

Right after Simi's engagement party, where everyone's dancing and celebrating, Vicky has to jet off for work. Rohan, Simi, and Preeti end up at another party together, and that's when things take a really dark turn. Ranjit tricks Simi into going with him under the pretense of giving her a gift, but he does something absolutely terrible that changes everything for everyone involved. Rohan tries to help, but the situation spirals into tragedy when Ranjit's cab crashes.

The whole situation becomes even more messy because Simi is dealing with the aftermath and doesn't know how to tell Vicky what happened. She's planning to have that conversation with him in person, but on her way to pick him up from the airport, she gets into an accident herself. Once she's at the hospital, the doctors deliver some shocking news that throws yet another curveball into this already messed-up situation, leaving Rohan and everyone else reeling.
