Rajesh Khanna's *Jeene Ki Raah* arrives as a surprisingly layered melodrama that transcends the formulaic family-versus-romance template dominating Hindi cinema of its era. What initially reads as a conventional bigamy plot—a desperate man torn between duty and desire—evolves into something more philosophically nuanced: a meditation on integrity, sacrifice, and the peculiar Indian paradox of honesty emerging only through deception. Khanna delivers a restrained, almost weary performance as Mohan, eschewing the theatrical histrionics that often plague such roles; his quiet shame when confronted by his manufactured life feels genuinely earned rather than manufactured for tears. Tina Ambani as Radha brings unexpected vulnerability to what could have been a one-dimensional "fragile heroine" archetype, while the supporting ensemble—particularly the portrayal of Mohan's overburdened family—grounds the fantasy in genuine economic desperation rather than melodramatic excess.

Director Vijay Bhatt orchestrates this narrative circus with admirable control, resisting the urge to make Mohan's deception purely villainous or entirely sympathetic; the moral ambiguity lingers even as his lies unravel. The climactic revelation that Radha's heart truly belongs to Manohar—turning the entire love triangle upside down—suggests Bhatt understood something crucial about redemption: sometimes it arrives not through grand gestures but through recognizing your own misplaced attachments. Storyline

Mohan's back in his village with a mountain of family debt crushing him—wife, kid, mom, three sisters, two brothers, all looking to him to save them! He bolts to the city hunting for work, but nothing sticks until his old buddy Manohar introduces him to the wealthy Kamalrai, who'll hire him on one condition: stay single. Desperate times call for desperate lies, so Mohan claims he's a bachelor and lands the gig.

Here's where it gets deliciously messy—Kamalrai's daughter Radha, a fragile heart patient just back from abroad, starts healing the moment Mohan's around, and she falls hard for him! Meanwhile, his actual family shows up in the city broke and homeless, forcing Mohan into this insane balancing act where he's living a total double life, sneaking between his wife and this girl who's stealing his heart by accident. When Radha's father wants to marry them off and Mohan comes clean about his wife, everything implodes—Shobha collapses, the family's furious, and even worse, this creep Sundar tries to kidnap Radha!

Mohan rescues Radha and finally spills the whole truth, and she actually gets it—she sees his integrity beneath the lies and vouches for him to her father! But here's the plot twist nobody saw coming: his buddy Manohar confesses he's in love with Radha, and she realizes she feels the same way about him, not Mohan! The film wraps up absolutely perfect with Manohar and Radha walking down the aisle together while Mohan gets his family sorted and everybody wins—it's pure, earnest Bollywood magic!
