Issaq arrives as another attempt to transplant the Romeo-Juliet narrative onto the canvas of underworld rivalry, a formula that has yielded mixed results in Hindi cinema—from the earnest Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela to the more pedestrian entries in this subgenre. Director Issaq sets his lovers against the backdrop of warring crime families in Banaras, and while the premise carries authentic potential, the execution remains frustratingly uneven. The film struggles to balance its dual ambitions: as a crime drama exploring territorial power dynamics and as a star-crossed romance. The performances, particularly from the lead pair, feel undercooked, lacking the magnetic chemistry or thespian depth required to elevate what is essentially familiar material. The direction neither commits fully to the gritty realism that could have grounded the violence, nor to the operatic romanticism that might have made the central love story transcendent.

Where Issaq falters most acutely is in its narrative construction. The Kashyap-Mishra feud, while visually rendered with adequate production design, never achieves the moral complexity or psychological nuance that distinguishes great crime cinema from the formulaic. Storyline

So basically, there are these two really powerful crime families in Banaras who are constantly at each other's throats over control of the land in their city. The Kashyaps and the Mishras are basically running this intense turf war, and they're willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top. It's all about who's going to dominate the real estate and power structure in their territory.

The rivalry between these two families is absolutely brutal and ruthless. They're not just having some friendly business competition—these guys are genuinely violent and dangerous, constantly trying to outmaneuver and destroy each other. Every move one family makes is matched by an equally aggressive response from the other side, keeping the whole city on edge.

What makes this whole situation really interesting is how personal and intense it all becomes. It's not just about money or property anymore—it's about pride, revenge, and proving which family deserves to rule Banaras. The conflict between them creates this really tense backdrop where anything could happen at any moment.
