Raghav Dhari's "Horror Story" arrives as yet another entry in Bollywood's increasingly crowded supernatural haunted-house subgenre, and while it borrows liberally from the playbook of films like "1920" and "Bhoot Returns," it struggles to inject genuine scares or meaningful character development into its premise. The film's central concept—a group of friends trapped in a cursed hotel that was built atop an abandoned asylum—has potential, but the execution feels rote and predictable. The performances, particularly from the ensemble cast, lack the nuance needed to make us genuinely invested in their survival; they deliver their dialogue with the mechanical precision of actors reading from a script rather than living through psychological terror. Where directors like Vishal Furia ("Lapata") have managed to wring authentic dread from claustrophobic spaces, Dhari relies too heavily on jump scares and loud sound design, which wear thin by the second act.

The film's technical shortcomings compound its narrative weaknesses. The cinematography attempts to create an oppressive atmosphere within the hotel's corridors, but the lighting choices often feel inconsistent, breaking the immersion we need to surrender to the horror. The supernatural logic governing the haunting—why the ghosts behave as they do, what rules govern their power—remains frustratingly vague, making the late-game plot twists feel unearned rather than inevitable. Storyline

So basically, this group of seven friends decides to reunite at a pub to say goodbye to one buddy who's heading overseas. While they're catching up, they hear about this creepy abandoned hotel that used to be a mental asylum for seriously dangerous patients. It got mostly destroyed in a fire, then they rebuilt it as a fancy hotel. The rumor going around is that the hotel owner was driven to kill himself by a ghost of someone who used to be locked up there.

The friends think it sounds like a fun adventure, so they sneak into the hotel through a back entrance since the main doors are locked. Pretty quickly, weird stuff starts happening — there's a TV blaring with no signal, they hear this terrifying voice welcoming them to death, and people start dying one by one. They get separated, chased by ghosts, and realize they're completely trapped inside with no way to escape.

Things get increasingly intense as the group tries desperately to find a way out. They spot an old jeep and think maybe they can drive their way to freedom, but the hotel just keeps messing with them in the most twisted ways. Every escape route they find doesn't lead where they expect it to, and the supernatural forces hunting them seem unstoppable. It becomes clear that this hotel has some seriously dark secrets and isn't about to let anyone leave easily.
