4/10Critic Score

Let's be honest—"Hari Puttar" is a shameless, paint-by-numbers knockoff of "Home Alone" that mistakes loud noises for comedy and relentless mugging for charm. The film's premise is derivative to the point of embarrassment: swap out Kevin McCallister for a precocious Indian kid in London, and you've got the entire creative skeleton right there. What could've been a culturally rooted twist on the formula instead becomes a soulless exercise in mimicry. The direction is utterly pedestrian, treating the audience like we've never seen a slapstick sequence before, while the child actor—bless him—is asked to carry scenes through exaggerated expressions and screaming rather than any genuine wit or vulnerability. The thieves are cardboard cutouts, the comedic timing is off, and the "innovative" traps Hari sets feel recycled from better films made three decades ago.

There's nothing here that justifies its existence beyond cashing in on a recognizable concept. The script lacks intelligence, the pacing is sluggish despite constant noise, and any attempt at heartfelt moments between Hari and his family falls flat because we've never invested in these characters. Even by the standards of children's cinema, where audiences are supposedly more forgiving, this film manages to bore while simultaneously assaulting your ears. The ₹2.41 crore box office result with an 81% loss tells you everything you need to know—paying audiences recognized a hollow product when they saw one. There's no original

Storyline

So basically, there's this ten-year-old kid named Hari who just moved from India to England, and he goes by the nickname Hari Puttar. When his parents decide to take a vacation and leave him behind with his cousin Tuk Tuk, things get pretty interesting pretty fast.

The main problem is that two thieves show up at their place trying to steal some super secret formula that Hari's dad invented. These guys are determined to get their hands on it, which puts our young hero in a tricky situation since he's basically the only one there to stop them.

What follows is basically a comedy adventure where this kid has to figure out how to protect his home and his father's invention from these criminals. It's all pretty lighthearted and fun, with lots of comedic moments as Hari tries to outsmart the burglars in his own creative ways.
