Review
Rajshree Thakur's *Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu* is a breezy romantic comedy that understands the assignment of the genre better than most Bollywood offerings from its era—yet it never quite transcends the comfortable mediocrity that defines semi-hits of this caliber. The drunk marriage premise has been done to death (see *Marriages Are Made in Heaven*), but Thakur finds genuine warmth in the aftermath, focusing less on slapstick chaos and more on two flawed people learning to be vulnerable with each other. Rajkummar Rao brings a refreshing earnestness to Rahul, peeling back layers of parental pressure with nuance rather than histrionics, while Deepika Padukone, though occasionally straitjacketed by the role's constraints, finds moments of quiet authenticity when discussing her abandoned dance dreams. The direction favors character moments over spectacle—a rarity in mainstream Hindi cinema—and the Las Vegas-to-Delhi geography actually serves the story's exploration of displacement and belonging.
Where the film stumbles is in its structural predictability and tonal inconsistency. The second act lags considerably when the narrative should be building momentum; the "will they, won't they" tension feels manufactured rather than earned, and the climax opts for melodrama when the film's greatest strength has been its restraint. Storyline
So there's this architect guy named Rahul whose life is basically controlled by his super strict parents who want him to be perfect at everything. He loses his job in Vegas but can't bring himself to tell his family the truth, so he's pretty stressed about it. One day at a therapist's office, he bumps into this girl named Riana and they have this whole misunderstanding where she thinks he's stalking her for her ex-boyfriend. It's actually pretty hilarious how they keep running into each other after that!
Fast forward to Christmas Eve and they both end up at a bar together. After a few too many drinks, they wake up the next morning realizing they got married in their drunken state! Obviously they freak out and decide to get an annulment right away. But then Riana has nowhere to live since she's also jobless and can't pay rent, so Rahul lets her crash at his place temporarily while she figures things out. Living together, they start opening up to each other and discover they have some pretty interesting things about themselves—he's passionate about photography and she used to dream of being a ballet dancer before an injury ruined that for her.
As the days go by, these two really start clicking and becoming genuine friends. Rahul finds himself catching feelings for Riana, and honestly she's helping him relax and enjoy life in ways he never could before. But she doesn't seem to feel the same way about him romantically, which creates this awkward tension between them. New Year's Eve is coming up and Riana's planning to go back home to see her family, so you can imagine things are about to get complicated!
