5/10Critic Score

Dil Kabaddi attempts something genuinely ambitious—a dark comedy about the unraveling of urban marriages that refuses to moralize or offer easy redemption. The film's central premise, following two couples through eighteen months of infidelity, separation, and emotional chaos, could have been either painfully pretentious or deeply honest. Director Abhinay Deo occasionally finds that sweet spot, extracting real comedy from the messy contradictions of modern relationships. There's a refreshing refusal here to judge his characters, and the film deserves credit for treating marital discord with both humor and surprising tenderness.

However, the execution falters where it matters most. The tonal balance between dark comedy and genuine drama proves difficult to maintain—scenes that should land with satirical bite often feel stretched and aimless instead. The performances, while earnest, don't quite elevate the material; the actors seem to be searching for the film's emotional center even as it slips away from them. The screenplay's eighteen-month span becomes a liability rather than an asset, with repetitive cycles of argument and reconciliation diluting rather than deepening our investment in these couples' fates.

What's most frustrating is that the film's DNA is sound. There's a movie here about how marriage becomes a game of territorial one-upmanship, how boredom breeds contempt, how urban life atomizes even committed relationships. Dil Kabaddi reaches for these truths but set

Storyline

So basically, this film is set in modern-day Mumbai and follows two married couples who are going through some serious relationship troubles. Both pairs are dealing with that whole "married life got boring" thing, where the spark has kind of fizzled out and they're tempted by other people. It's a pretty realistic take on how urban couples navigate their love lives these days, just with a comedic twist to keep things light.

The story kicks off when one couple announces they're splitting up, and then we follow both couples as they basically fall apart and try to figure out what to do about their messy situations. Over the course of about eighteen months, we watch them argue, separate, cheat, and just generally have a rough time dealing with their emotions. It's messy and chaotic but in a way that feels genuine to what actually happens in real relationships.

The whole vibe is kind of like watching your friends' relationships crumble in real-time, except you're laughing at the absurdity of it all instead of just feeling sorry for them. It's a dark comedy that doesn't shy away from showing how complicated marriage can get, especially when you're living that fast-paced city life with all its distractions and temptations.
