5/10Critic Score

This is exactly the kind of tired, paint-by-numbers crime drama that Bollywood churns out on autopilot. The premise—hardworking everyman sucked into the underworld, finds redemption through love—isn't fresh; it's been done to death from *Satya* onwards. What could've been a gripping exploration of moral decay instead becomes a melodramatic slog where the lead character's sudden epiphany feels less like earned character development and more like a scriptwriter's convenience. The director mistakes predictability for inevitability, and the result is a film that ticks boxes rather than taking risks.

The performances don't help much either. There's a lack of nuance in how the protagonist's transformation is portrayed—he's a taxi driver one moment and a cold-blooded assassin the next, with precious little internal conflict shown in between. The chemistry between the lead and his long-lost love is forced, relying on nostalgia rather than actual dramatic tension. Even the mafia boss feels one-dimensional, barking orders without any complexity that might've made the protagonist's eventual betrayal feel genuinely wrenching. The climax tries desperately to manufacture stakes, but by then, you've already checked out.

Given that this director's average sits at 4.0, *Devta* at least avoids being an absolute disaster—the technical execution is competent, the pacing doesn't entirely fall apart. But competence isn't enough when the story itself lacks imagination and the emotional core rings

Storyline

Ballu's mundane life as a taxi driver takes a wild turn when he saves the life of ruthless mafia boss Bajang in a split second of heroism. Before he knows it, he's sucked into the criminal underworld and transformed into a cold-blooded assassin called Tiger—a name that strikes fear into everyone around him. The money's good, the power's intoxicating, and there's no turning back now.

Everything crumbles when Bajang assigns Tiger his most brutal assignment yet: eliminate police officer Rakesh. But here's where fate plays its hand—Ballu discovers that Rakesh is married to Devika, the woman who owned his heart all those years ago. Suddenly, the lines between his past and present collide in the most devastating way, and Tiger the assassin finds himself paralyzed by something stronger than loyalty to the gang: love.

In a breathtaking turn, Ballu risks everything by choosing to protect Rakesh instead of pulling the trigger. He becomes a man caught between two worlds—the ruthless killer the mafia demands and the human being who still carries Devika in his heart. It's a nail-biting climax where one man's redemption could cost him his life, and you're absolutely rooting for him the entire way!
