Review
"Darling" attempts to wrestle with infidelity and supernatural retribution, themes that have been explored far more effectively in films like "Raees" or even the psychological depth of "Bhool Bhulaiyaa." Director's treatment here feels scattered—the film can't decide whether it wants to be a marital drama, a revenge thriller, or a possession horror, and in trying to be all three, it becomes none convincingly. Aditya's character arc from philandering husband to guilt-stricken protagonist should carry emotional weight, but the screenplay relies too heavily on jump scares and melodramatic confessions rather than genuine character introspection. The performances feel constrained by the uneven pacing; what should have been moments of raw vulnerability instead come across as overwrought.
The supernatural elements introduce interesting possibilities—Geeta's vengeful ghost returning to haunt Aditya could have deepened the moral commentary on betrayal and consequences—but the execution devolves into tired tropes. The possession twist in the final act, with Geeta's spirit inhabiting Ashwini's body, feels less like a logical narrative progression and more like a desperate attempt to extend the runtime. Cinematography and background score do little to elevate the material, and there's a distinct lack of the atmospheric tension that could have salvaged this premise. The film's financial underperformance isn't surprising; audiences seem to have rightfully sensed that beneath the sensation
Storyline
So basically, this guy Aditya has got himself into a real mess. He's married to this sweet, traditional woman named Ashwini and they've got a kid together, but he's secretly dating his hot-shot secretary Geeta on the side. He's pretty slick about juggling both relationships with lies and promises, telling Geeta he'll leave his wife for her eventually. Things go downhill when they're hanging out at some fancy bungalow and Geeta drops the bomb that she's pregnant. Aditya totally freaks out and wants her to get an abortion, which absolutely infuriates her.
Things escalate between them in a really tragic way during their fight—he pushes her, she hits her head, and she dies right there. Instead of owning up to it, Aditya just hides her body and pretends nothing happened when he gets back home. But here's where it gets properly creepy: Geeta comes back as a vengeful ghost who's determined to make him pay for what he did to her. She keeps appearing and scaring him senseless, and eventually he gets so guilt-ridden that he confesses the whole affair and Geeta's death to Ashwini.
The confession totally shakes Ashwini, and she leaves him, but then she gets into this serious accident and ends up hospitalized. Things seem to take a turn when Geeta's ghost apparently forgives Aditya, but that's when things get really twisted. When Ashwini recovers and comes back, there's something definitely off about her—Geeta's vengeful spirit has actually taken over her body.
