Rajpal Yadav's "Chup Chup Ke" attempts to blend comedy with a heartfelt premise about disability and social prejudice, but the execution stumbles under the weight of its own contrivances. The central conceit—a man pretending to be deaf and mute while staying in a wealthy household—could have offered sharp satirical commentary in the vein of classics like "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro," but instead the film treats the deception as a convenient plot device rather than exploring its moral implications. Shahid Kapoor and Sonali Joshi deliver serviceable performances, but they're working within a script that mistakes melodrama for emotion; the romance between Jeetu and Shruti feels grafted onto a film already juggling too many narrative threads. The film's attempt to be progressive about disability representation is undermined by using Shruti's muteness primarily as a plot mechanism—she's more of a catalyst than a fully realized character.

What does work occasionally is the chemistry between the supporting cast and the lighter comedic moments that don't strain credibility, but these bright spots are overwhelmed by a bloated runtime and a third act that spirals into unnecessary complications with the village subplot. Yadav's direction lacks the narrative discipline needed to balance romance, family drama, and social commentary; compared to contemporaneous Hindi comedies that managed similar tonal mixing with greater finesse, "Chup Chup Ke" feels scattered. Storyline

So there's this guy Jeetu whose dad is a retired teacher drowning in debt, and Jeetu's made a mess of things with failed businesses. He gets desperate enough to try something drastic to help his family, but ends up being rescued by these two fishermen who totally get the wrong idea about him. They think he can't talk or hear, which actually becomes kind of useful because they decide to pawn him off on this wealthy businessman named Prabhat as collateral for money they owe him.

While Jeetu's stuck pretending to be disabled in Prabhat's house, he meets Prabhat's niece Shruti, who actually is mute but can hear just fine. Shruti's overprotective brother Mangal is trying to find her a husband, but nobody wants to marry her because of her disability. Things get really interesting when Shruti and her cousin figure out that Jeetu's faking it, and they basically blackmail him into helping them with Shruti's marriage situation.

Long story short, these two girls start helping Jeetu by sending money back to his village to clear his debts, which is pretty generous of them. Meanwhile, back home some complicated stuff is happening with his ex-fiancée, and at the same time Shruti ends up falling for Jeetu. The whole thing gets pretty tangled up with feelings, secrets, and whether everyone's going to come clean about what's really going on.
