Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan

Review

6/10Critic Score

There's something genuinely heartwarming about watching Chhota Bheem face down an immortal demon across the centuries—it's the kind of high-concept adventure that should captivate young audiences and their parents alike. The time-travel premise lifts the narrative beyond typical superhero fare, and the ancient city of Sonapur offers a visually rich backdrop that the production clearly tried to honor. What works most powerfully here is the emotional core: the film understands that children respond not just to action, but to the bonds of friendship and the courage required to stand against impossible odds. The supporting cast of allies Bheem meets in the past feels genuine, and their struggles under Damyaan's rule ground the fantasy in real stakes. However, the execution falters where ambition meets budget constraints—the pacing drags in the second act, exposition weighs heavily on dialogue that should flow naturally, and the climactic showdown, while visually intended to be epic, lacks the kinetic punch needed to truly satisfy after such a long buildup.

Director's handling of character moments shows promise, particularly in scenes where Bheem grapples with impossible choices, yet the screenplay itself feels undernourished. The villain, despite his centuries-spanning threat, never achieves menace beyond the surface—we learn *that* Damyaan gained immortality, but the curse itself lacks the mythological texture it deserves. Young viewers will likely find entertainment
