5.5/10Critic Score

Yash Raj Films' attempt to resurrect the Bunty Aur Babli franchise stumbles under the weight of its own nostalgia, delivering a sequel that mistakes fan service for genuine storytelling. The premise—aging con artists forced out of retirement when imposters hijack their legendary identity—carries promise reminiscent of the playful heist comedies that defined early-2000s Hindi cinema. Yet the execution falters considerably, oscillating between tired buddy-cop tropes and half-baked social commentary that never coheres into anything meaningful. The generational conflict between the original masterminds and their young counterparts could have explored themes of obsolescence and reinvention, but instead devolves into formulaic set pieces that feel more obligatory than inspired.

What saves the film from complete irrelevance is its occasional self-aware humor regarding the couple's middle-aged irrelevance and the chemistry between its leads, who at least seem invested in wringing laughs from their fish-out-of-water predicament. The young con artists' accidentally-benevolent schemes add a farcical element that briefly elevates the material, though this tonal inconsistency works against rather than for the narrative. The central heist mechanics lack the intricate plotting that made the original 2005 film such a delightful caper—here, complications arise not from clever counterplay but from convenient contrivances designed to keep the plot moving toward its inevitable showdown.

Storyline

So basically, this old married couple used to be these legendary con artists back in the day—total masterminds who never got caught. They've been living a quiet life for over a decade now, just trying to be normal people, you know? But then these two young kids decide to pull off some scams using the exact same "Bunty Aur Babli" name, thinking they'll be untouchable just like the originals were. The thing is, everyone immediately suspects the OG couple.

The cops are breathing down the old duo's necks, convinced they're back in the game. There's this cop who's super determined to pin everything on them, and they're basically under watch the whole time. Meanwhile, the young con artists are out there pulling jobs left and right, including this massive heist involving some rich guy's party business thing. It's actually kind of funny because even though the newbies are committing crimes, some of their schemes end up doing good stuff for society by accident.

The original pair realizes their reputation is being completely hijacked, and they're getting framed for everything going wrong. So they decide to hunt down these imposters themselves and prove they're the real deal, all while trying to stay out of jail. It becomes this whole wild competition where the old legends have to show the young punks how it's actually done.
