Review
"Ahista Ahista" arrives as a quiet, character-driven romance that prioritizes emotional authenticity over manufactured drama—a refreshing choice in an industry often intoxicated by spectacle. Director Sooraj Barjatya demonstrates a genuine affection for his protagonists' struggles, and the film's central premise—two broken people rebuilding themselves through mutual support—carries real emotional weight. Emraan Hashmi and Sonam Kapoor share an understated chemistry that feels earned rather than imposed, and both actors resist the urge to oversell vulnerability. The film's treatment of class anxiety (Ankush's English-language insecurity, his financial precarity) and the quiet courage required to start over feels honestly observed rather than patronizing.
However, the film's measured pacing, while intentional, often slips into lethargy, particularly in its second half where the narrative momentum dissipates. The reappearance of the ex-boyfriend feels obligatory rather than organic, as though the script required manufactured conflict to justify its runtime. Some supporting scenes meander without purpose, and the resolution, while emotionally consonant with the film's philosophy, arrives with a certain resignation rather than earned catharsis. Storyline
So basically, there's this guy Ankush who's just scraping by in Delhi, working as a witness at the marriage registrar office. One day, this woman Megha shows up to marry her boyfriend, but he completely ghosts her at the last minute. Instead of letting her fall apart, Ankush steps in and helps her find work at an old age home, which becomes a turning point for her entire life.
Over time, Megha starts realizing how much potential she actually has and how she'd been so focused on her failed relationship that she never really discovered who she was. Meanwhile, Ankush is inspired by her growth and decides to level up his own life too. He takes on extra work at a bank to pay off a loan he took for her, and eventually lands a supervisor position, but he's nervous because he doesn't speak fluent English.
The two of them develop real feelings for each other, and Megha helps boost his confidence to chase his dreams. Just when things are looking amazing between them, her ex-boyfriend Dheeraj suddenly reappears out of nowhere wanting to find Megha. Now things get complicated, and you'll have to watch to see what happens next!
