Nimbus Communications Limited was a powerhouse in Indian media and entertainment, built from the ground up by Harish Thawani starting in 1987. What began as an ambitious venture quickly evolved into a major player in sports broadcasting and filmed entertainment, expanding its reach across India, Singapore, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and beyond. The company's biggest flex came in 2006 when it locked down a massive four-year broadcasting contract with the BCCI for international cricket matches, worth a staggering $612.18 million—a deal that cemented its status as a heavyweight in sports media. By 2010, Nimbus had grown significant enough to attract investment from the Times of India Group, marking its prominence in the Indian entertainment ecosystem. Nimbus was known for operating Neo Prime and Neo Sports channels, carving out a unique space in Indian broadcasting with integrated, end-to-end media services that combined sports broadcasting, marketing, and entertainment production. The company's contribution to Bollywood and Indian entertainment went beyond just films—it positioned itself as a multimedia powerhouse connecting sports, content creation, and distribution across multiple platforms and markets. Though the company faced financial headwinds in its later years, leading to liquidation in 2018 following disputes with Union Bank of India, Nimbus left a lasting mark on how Indian entertainment and sports media were packaged and distributed globally.
