Kumkum, born Zaibunnisa Khan, was a versatile Indian actress who carved out an impressive career spanning nearly two decades from 1954 to 1973. She became a household name through iconic roles in classics like Mother India (1957), Kohinoor (1960), and Ankhen (1968), establishing herself as a reliable presence in Hindi cinema during the industry's golden age. Her on-screen chemistry with leading men, particularly Kishore Kumar, made her a favorite pairing for audiences, and she demonstrated her range by appearing in over two dozen films across various genres, from romantic dramas to comedies. Beyond her work in Hindi films, Kumkum made history as a pioneering force in Bhojpuri cinema, starring in Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo (1963), which holds the distinction of being the first-ever Bhojpuri film.
