Co-founded by actor David Hemmings and producer John Daly in London, the company's name was a clever mashup of their surnames—fitting for a studio that knew how to blend British sensibility with American box office muscle. Their track record was legitimately impressive: they produced or distributed some of cinema's most iconic films, including The Terminator, Platoon, and The Last Emperor. What really puts them in the hall of fame is that last one-two punch—Platoon and The Last Emperor back-to-back wins for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
