Dhadak 2 (2025): Hit or Flop? The Real Box Office Verdict

Dhadak 2: A Love Story That Couldn't Find Its Audience

Here's the thing about Dhadak 2 — it did exactly what it needed to do financially, but that's actually the problem.

Director Shazia Iqbal's follow-up to the 2018 original came with a ₹29 crore budget, and it collected exactly ₹29 crore at the box office. Now, before you think that sounds balanced, let us break this down for you. In Bollywood terms, a film typically needs to earn at least 2.5 to 3 times its budget just to break even when you account for distribution costs, theater shares, and marketing expenses. Dhadak 2's zero percent ROI means it literally made no profit — it just covered its bare production costs and nothing else. That's not a success; that's a struggle.

With Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri leading the romantic drama, expectations were certainly there. Both actors have shown promise in previous projects, and adding veteran Zakir Hussain to the cast gave the film some gravitas. The chemistry between the leads could've been the film's anchor, but clearly, audiences weren't rushing to theaters to watch their love story unfold.

So what went wrong? The film arrived in a market saturated with similar romantic dramas, and it didn't seem to offer anything particularly fresh or compelling. Sometimes a movie can have everything on paper — decent cast, an experienced director, a reasonable budget — but still miss the mark with audiences. That's essentially what happened here. The Dhadak franchise itself carries the weight of the original's success, which was a big deal back in 2018. Trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle proved too difficult, especially when the audience's tastes and the market itself have changed significantly.

The verdict of "Below Average" isn't harsh; it's just honest. The film didn't resonate with multiplex audiences in cities, nor did it manage to build the kind of word-of-mouth that could've saved it. It came, it stayed for a bit, and it left quietly without making much of an impression.

This is one of those reminders that Bollywood isn't always about star power or even decent execution — sometimes it's about timing, market saturation, and whether a film genuinely connects with what audiences want to watch. Dhadak 2 simply couldn't crack that code, finishing its theatrical run with a whimper rather than a bang. For a romantic drama aiming to be the next big thing, that's a disappointing note to end on.
