Sagar Sarhadi was one of Bollywood's most celebrated writers and directors, a creative force who shaped some of the industry's most romantic and emotionally resonant films. Born in British India (now Pakistan) in 1933, he started as an Urdu short story and playwright before making his mark on Hindi cinema. His breakthrough came with Yash Chopra's *Kabhi Kabhi* (1976), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Raakhee, which introduced audiences to his poetic sensibility. From there, he became the go-to writer for some of Bollywood's most iconic films—*Silsila* (1981) with its unforgettable chemistry between Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rekha; *Chandni* (1989), the dreamy romance that made Sridevi a superstar; and *Noorie* (1979), which showcased his ability to craft deeply human stories. His work earned him recognition including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Cultural Artifact Film Festival in 2019. What set Sarhadi apart was his gift for weaving emotional depth into love stories—his scripts weren't just about romance, they explored the complexities of relationships and human connections in ways that felt both intimate and universal. He proved that Bollywood could be both commercially successful and artistically significant, influencing generations of writers who followed. Whether as a writer, director, or producer, Sarhadi's fingerprints were all over some of cinema's most cherished films, from *Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai* to *Bazaar*, creating a body of work that remains timeless. He passed away in Mumbai in 2021, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire film
