His work at Gemini Studios during its golden era helped define the aesthetics and storytelling approaches that would influence Tamil cinema for generations. Eventually, Balan rose to become the chairman of the Vikatan Group, cementing his legacy as a media powerhouse and cultural custodian. Beyond his executive roles, Balan was known for his sharp analytical mind and his ability to bridge journalism and filmmaking in ways that few could.
