Director
Pradip Krishen
Pradip Krishen is a filmmaker who made a real mark on Indian cinema during his relatively brief stint behind the camera in the late '80s and early '90s. Though he only directed three films—Massey Sahib (1985), In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989), and Electric Moon (1991)—his work earned serious recognition, including a National Film Award. In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones became a cult classic that's still talked about today, and interestingly, the film starred his then-wife Arundhati Roy, who would go on to become a celebrated author and activist in her own right. What made Krishen's films stand out was their distinctive voice and willingness to push boundaries in Indian cinema during that era. His storytelling had an artistic sensibility that didn't quite fit the mainstream Bollywood formula, earning him respect as a true independent filmmaker. After 1995, Krishen made the unconventional choice to step away from filmmaking entirely, redirecting his creative energy toward his passions for nature and environmental conservation—a decision that says a lot about the man's values and integrity. His legacy in cinema might be small in volume, but it's undeniably significant in impact.
