Pradeep Sarkar was one of those rare filmmakers who could nail pretty much anything—from blockbuster films to music videos to over 1000 commercials that basically defined an era of Indian advertising. Born in Calcutta in 1955, he built a career that earned him serious credentials, including a National Film Award and recognition from prestigious bodies like the Abby and Rapa Awards. But if there's one film that'll always be his calling card, it's Parineeta (2005), the beautifully crafted romantic drama that became a touchstone for how to adapt classic literature with style and sensitivity for modern audiences.
