Director
Mahesh Narayanan
Mahesh Narayanan is one of those rare filmmakers who wears multiple hats with real expertise—he's a director, screenwriter, editor, and cinematographer all rolled into one. Born in Kerala, this guy has primarily built his reputation in Malayalam cinema, though he's also ventured into Tamil and Hindi projects. Before making his directorial mark, Narayanan became pretty well-known for his razor-sharp editing work on Kamal Haasan's action thrillers Vishwaroopam and Vishwaroopam II, which showed audiences he had serious technical chops. His directorial debut Take Off (2017) earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director, and he followed that up with a string of critically acclaimed projects that proved it wasn't a one-hit wonder situation. What really sets Narayanan apart is his ability to blend technical precision with deeply human storytelling—his films feel both meticulously crafted and genuinely engaging. He's known for tackling unconventional narratives and pushing the boundaries of what Malayalam cinema can do, earning him respect as one of the industry's most inventive voices. His 2020 thriller C U Soon was a game-changer, shot during the pandemic and playing with form in creative ways, while Malik (2021) showcased his range with its sprawling crime saga spanning decades. Most recently, Ariyippu (2022) added another Kerala State Film Award for Best Director to his shelf, cementing his position as a filmmaker audiences and critics take seriously.
