Born in Philadelphia in 1945, Sholder built his reputation on genre films that blended scares with clever storytelling, becoming particularly known for helming cult classics like *Alone in the Dark* (1982), *A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge*, and the underrated sci-fi thriller *The Hidden* (1987).
