Director
Babu
Babu Narayanan was a prolific Malayalam film director who made his mark during the 1990s golden age of Malayalam cinema. Born in Kozhikode, Kerala, Babu directed over 25 films throughout his career from 1989 to 2019, establishing himself as a reliable craftsman of engaging family dramas and social narratives. His most celebrated work came through a creative partnership with fellow director P. Anil, where they collaborated on beloved hits like Manthrikacheppu, Sthreedhanam, Kudumba Vishesham, and Kaliyoonjal—films that resonated deeply with Kerala audiences and became touchstones of that era's cinema. Their final collaboration, Parayam, released in 2004 before Babu stepped back from filmmaking. What set Babu apart was his ability to weave authentic Kerala-based stories with commercial sensibility, capturing the warmth of family relationships and social dynamics that defined Malayalam cinema's signature appeal. After a hiatus from the industry, he made a noteworthy comeback in 2013 with To Noora with Love, proving that his storytelling instincts remained intact. Beyond his directorial work, Babu also contributed as an associate director under the legendary Hariharan and co-directed the period drama Keralavarama Pazhassiraja, broadening his range across different film genres and scales. His legacy remains that of a dependable filmmaker who understood his audience's heart.
