Radha Saluja

Radha Saluja is one of those underrated gems from Hindi cinema's golden era who deserves way more recognition than she gets. Born in Calcutta in 1951, this FTII alumna became a powerhouse across multiple film industries—Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada—proving she had the range and talent to work everywhere. Her early '70s Hindi films like Haar Jeet and Ek Mutthi Aasmaan established her as a serious actress, but she really made waves down south with back-to-back Tamil blockbusters opposite the legendary M.G. Ramachandran. Both Idhayakkani (1975) and Indru Pol Endrum Vaazhga (1977) were massive hits that showed Tamil audiences loved her chemistry with MGR. She also broke ground in Punjabi cinema with the landmark film Morni in 1975. What made Radha special was her ability to hold her own opposite major stars across different film industries without getting typecast—a pretty rare achievement in that era. She brought a naturalism and grace to her roles that felt refreshingly modern for the time, and her willingness to work across regional cinemas made her genuinely progressive for a 1970s Bollywood actress. Though she eventually stepped back from the spotlight, wrapping up her acting career in 2006, her filmography from the '70s and early '80s remains proof that she was one of the finest talents to grace Indian screens.
