Sheela is a legendary presence in Malayalam cinema who practically defined an era of Indian film. During her golden run from the early '60s through the '80s, she became a box-office sensation, most famously for her on-screen chemistry with Prem Nazir—a pairing so prolific that they hold the Guinness World Record for appearing together in around 105 films. Beyond the numbers, Sheela proved she had serious range, earning four Kerala State Film Awards and commanding salaries that often exceeded her male co-stars, making her one of the highest-paid actresses of her generation. Her career took a notable pause, but in 2003 she made a spectacular comeback with Manassinakkare, proving she still had it.
