Nana Palshikar

Born: 1 January 1907

Nana Palshikar was a legendary character actor who carved out an impressive 49-year career in Hindi cinema, appearing in over 80 films from 1935 onwards. Starting with his debut in Dhuwandhar, he became the guy you'd see stealing scenes in both mainstream blockbusters and critically acclaimed arthouse films. Beyond Bollywood, Palshikar managed to snag roles in some pretty significant international productions including Maya, The Guru, and even Gandhi—cementing his reputation as a respected actor on a broader stage. His talent didn't go unnoticed either: he bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor twice, in 1962 and 1965, plus additional recognition from the Bengal Film Journalists' Association. What really set Nana Palshikar apart was his ability to breathe life into character roles that could've easily been forgettable in less capable hands. He had that rare gift of making every scene count, whether he was playing a pivotal supporting character or a smaller part. His versatility across different genres and film types showed he wasn't just a one-note performer—he adapted seamlessly to whatever the story demanded. By the time he wrapped up his career in 1984, Palshikar had left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema as one of the finest character actors of his generation, influencing generations of actors who came after him.
