Naaz

Naaz

Born: 8 June 1998

Kumari Naaz, born Salma Baig in Bombay, was a true child star who dominated Bollywood's early golden age. Her breakout role in Boot Polish (1954) made her the highest-paid child actor in the industry at that time, a title she wore with the kind of natural talent that had audiences rooting for her. Though she transitioned into supporting roles in Hindi films throughout the 1960s to 1980s, Naaz didn't fade into obscurity—instead, she carved out a whole new legacy in Bhojpuri cinema, becoming one of its most celebrated leading ladies and proving she had serious range. What made Naaz special was her ability to connect with audiences across different film industries and genres. Whether she was lighting up the screen in a supporting part or anchoring a Bhojpuri film, she brought authenticity and charm to every role, with standout performances in Bidesiya (1963) and Saiyan Se Neha Lagaibe (1965) cementing her status as a versatile performer. Her journey from child sensation to respected actress in regional cinema made her one of the underrated gems of Indian cinema, someone who contributed significantly to Bollywood and Bhojpuri film cultures alike. Naaz passed away in 1995, leaving behind a body of work that deserves far more recognition than it typically gets.
