Laxmikant Berde
Born: 3 November 1954
Laxmikant Berde was the kind of actor who made everything look effortless, whether he was stealing scenes in a Marathi film or bringing comic relief to massive Bollywood blockbusters. Over his 20-year career, this Ratnagiri-born star appeared in around 185 films and earned the well-deserved title of "Superstar of Marathi Cinema." He kicked things off in the early 80s with the stage play Tur Tur, which opened doors to his film career, and quickly proved he had serious range. His back-to-back Filmfare Awards for Best Actor – Marathi for Lek Chalali Sasarla (1984) and Dhum Dhadaka (1985) announced his arrival as a force in Marathi cinema, but it was his work in Bollywood that made him a household name across India. What really set Berde apart was his gift for comedy—the kind that doesn't feel forced or over-the-top, but genuinely makes you laugh. Bollywood audiences connected with him through iconic films like Maine Pyar Kiya, 100 Days, Beta, and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, where he landed four consecutive Filmfare nominations for Best Comic Role. Beyond films, he was equally brilliant on stage with comedy plays like Shantecha Karta Chalu Aahe and Bighadale Swargache Dwaar, proving he was a complete entertainer. Though his life was cut short in 2004, Berde left behind an incredible legacy—not just as a prolific actor with an impressive filmography, but as someone who perfected the art of making people smile across two film industries.
