Divya Singh
# Divya Singh Bio Divya Singh is a legendary figure in Indian women's basketball, having captained the Indian National Women's Basketball Team at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games—a career highlight that cemented her status as one of the country's most respected athletes. Born in Varanasi in 1982, Singh has built an impressive legacy both on and off the court, combining elite-level athleticism with sharp leadership skills. After hanging up her playing shoes, she transitioned seamlessly into coaching, earning a sports management degree from the University of Delaware and working as an assistant coach for various Indian national teams across multiple age groups and tournaments, including the bronze medal-winning Indian Men's team at the Lusophony Games and the women's squad at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. What really sets Singh apart is her unwavering commitment to developing basketball talent across India, currently coaching at elite Delhi institutions like St. Stephen's College and Jesus & Mary College while also serving as a coach for the Delhi women's basketball team. She comes from what's fondly called the "Basketball Family of India"—her three sisters, Prashanti, Akanksha, and Pratima, have all represented the Indian National Women's Basketball Team, with Akanksha currently holding the captain's position. This tight-knit family of athletes, known collectively as the Singh Sisters, has fundamentally shaped women's basketball in India. Beyond her on-court and coaching contributions, Divya represents the intelligent, multi-dimensional athlete—balancing her work with MTNL Delhi while continuing to mentor the next generation of basketball stars.
