Arvind Gaur
Arvind Gaur is a powerhouse in Indian theatre who's spent over two decades creating plays that punch above their weight. As the founder of Asmita, Delhi's influential theatre group, Gaur has established himself as a director who refuses to shy away from the messier aspects of society—communalism, caste discrimination, domestic violence, and state crimes are all fair game for his raw, unapologetic storytelling. With more than a hundred stage and street plays under his belt, plus a research fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Gaur has proven that theatre doesn't need flashy production values to shake audiences awake. His work has taken him across universities, colleges, and institutions both in India and internationally, making him one of the most respected voices in socially conscious Indian theatre. What sets Gaur apart is his commitment to theatre as a tool for social change, not just entertainment. His plays are deliberately contemporary and thought-provoking, seamlessly weaving personal human stories into larger political conversations. Beyond the stage, he's equally dedicated to grassroots work—conducting theatre workshops in schools and slums, organizing street performances that bring pressing socio-political issues directly to communities, and training the next generation of theatre workers and actors. For Gaur, theatre isn't confined to auditoriums; it's a living, breathing practice that lives in the streets, schools, and hearts of ordinary people. This unwavering focus on making art accessible and relevant has cemented his reputation as not just an artist, but a genuine activist working at the intersection of culture and social justice.
